About

CHARLOTTE JANE OEDEKOVEN, HALF CANADIAN, HALF GERMAN-DUTCH ARTIST AND DESIGNER, WAS BORN IN EDMONTON/CANADA AND MOVED TO MUNICH/GERMANY AT AGE 6, WHERE SHE STARTED ATTENDING ART LESSONS AT THE ART ACADEMY AT THE EARLY AGE OF 8, LEARNING SEVERAL TECHNIQUES FROM PAINTING TO SCULPTURING. AFTER TWO YEARS OF ART HISTORY AT THE UNIVERSITY IN MUNICH SHE MOVED TO ZURICH/SWITZERLAND TO DO HER BACHELOR IN INDUSTRIAL DESIGN, SPECIALIZING IN SCENOGRAPHICAL DESIGN, AT THE ZURICH UNIVERSITY OF THE ARTS. DURING THIS TIME SHE ALSO CREATED HER LABEL CAN.D.SIGN* art&design, DOING MAINLY ILLUSTRATION, GRAPHIC DESIGN AND CUSTOM PAINTINGS, BUT ALSO INTERIOR DESIGN AND VIDEO.
HER STYLE CAN BE DESCRIBED AS A BLEND OF STREET ART AND POP SURREALISM, USING MIXED MEDIA, SPRAY PAINT, ACRYLICS AND COLLAGE TECHNIQUES. A LOT OF HER ART SHOWS ANIMAL IMAGES, AS ONE OF HER GREATEST INFLUENCES IN FINE ART WAS THE EARLY 20TH CENTURY EXPRESSIONIST FRANZ MARC*, WHO WAS FAMOUS FOR HIS COLORFUL ABSTARCT ANIMALS.
ANOTHER STRONG INFLUENCE CAME FROM GRAFFITI AND STREET ART DURING HER TRIPS TO NEW YORK WITH 15 AND 20. „AS A SCENOGRAPHICAL DESIGNER I AM ALWAYS AWARE OF URBAN ARCHITECTURE, WHEREVER I TRAVEL ...MOST INSPIRATION COMES FROM THE THREE DIMENSIONAL SURROUNDING ME AND THE THINGS THAT FILL THIS VOLUME.“
